Contextualized Multimodal Language Learning
Taipei, Taiwan | June 28-30, 2021
CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
The 4th Pedagogy and Practice in Technology Enhanced Language Learning (renamed from Pan-Pacific Technology Enhanced Language Learning, PPTELL 2021) brings together researchers, educators, and practitioners to share their perspectives and research on the theory and/or application of state-of-the-art uses of technology to enhance language learning.
PPTELL 2021 is being planned as a hybrid conference. It will be co-hosted by PPTELL Association, the Higher Education Sprout Project Office at National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU), University of North Texas(UNT) and the Monash Universtiy.Through intra-disciplinary and interdisciplinary interactions, this conference aims to promote dialogues and collaboration between academia and the global e-learning industry and to enhance progress in TELL. This year’s theme will focus on multimodal learning afforded by technology for language learners in various contexts. As interactive multimedia technology allows language input to be presented in more than one sensory form, learners can receive increased support in their cognitive process to achieve better learning outcomes. How has this multimodality feature affected language teaching and learning in different contexts, such as in mixed reality or wholly online learning? We invite all submissions on the concerns of TELL but especially those that connect with our theme for the year.
Topics of interests include, but are not limited to:
PPTELL 2021 sincerely invites abstract submission that shows originality based on theoretical or practical works focusing on global connectivity in technology-enhanced language learning with the following topics related to the theme—Contextualized multimodal language learning (CMLL), but are not limited to:
- The theoretical foundation of CMLL
- The learning/teaching approaches in CMLL, for either personal or cooperative learning
- CMLL for diverse learners
- CMLL for learners with special needs
- CMLL for language for specific purposes
- The affective aspects in CMLL
- The digital techniques for supporting CMLL
- Artificial intelligence for CMLL
- Mixed reality for CMLL
- Big data in CMLL
- The learning process analysis in CMLL
- Teacher training in CMLL
- The innovative evaluation approach to assessing learners’ learning outcome in CMLL
Types of submissions
The PPTELL 2021 conference features three types of presentations.
- Oral presentation:
The presentations should report on original research related to TELL. The duration of a presentation is 20 minutes, including time for discussion.
- Poster presentation:
Presentations should contain images and information that attendees can read and which can be explained by the presenters. The duration of a poster session is one hour. Presenters should be present for the duration of their scheduled time.
- Technology Showcase:
Technology showcase focuses on hands-on demonstrations of original creative works. Its presentations take place in an informal setting—all presenters in the room present simultaneously while attendees may approach to discuss topics individually. The Showcase lasts for 1 hour.
